ABOUT A Passion for Communication DesignChristina Kolm is a creative design professional with over 20 years of experience spanning freelance design, college teaching, and art direction for several notable corporations. In 2003, Ms. Kolm embarked on a career as an independent graphic designer and marketing consultant. In this role, she has successfully leveraged her expertise to assist clients by creating marketing and branding collateral for print and Web channels. Her proven results have earned accolades from her clients. Concurrent with her freelance endeavors, Ms. Kolm joined Johnson County Community College in 2003 as an Adjunct Associate Professor teaching Photoshop I and II and Introduction to Macintosh courses to design students. She quickly and consistently expanded her coursework to include 2D and 3D Design, Drawing and Media Methods I and II, Typography, Introduction to Graphic Design, and courses that cover several Adobe CS3 applications. She currently holds positions as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Graphic Design and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Personal Computer Applications. Kolm earlier served as an Art Director for Hallmark Cards division Ambassador Cards where she had primary responsibility for leading the creation of greeting cards for birthdays, holidays, and other events and milestones. This role allowed her to use her substancial creativity as well as her leadership skills to provide design leadership to cross-functional teams. Ms. Kolm was originally recruited by Hallmark as an Art Director for Hallmark Properties leading the design and marketing of licensed characters. In an earlier position Ms. Kolm played a key role as Art Director with Licensing Company of America, a subsidiary of Warner Communications (now Time Warner, Inc.). This position allowed her to fully develop expertise as a product designer and also in the marketing licensed properties including the Warner Brothers Looney Tunes characters and Major League Baseball. Ms. Kolm is committed to maintaining the currency of her skills and has taken and taught many courses in the Adobe design suite. Kolm possesses a Master of Science in Communication Design (Graphic Design) from Pratt Institute in New York and a Bachelor of Arts in Art from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She grew up in East Aurora, New York, where she was surrounded and influenced by the design motifs and aesthetics of The Roycroft, an early center of the Arts and Crafts Movement in America. Kolm is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
